How To Insert A SIM Card Into Fire Phone & Be Able To Use It
In this extra short tutorial I will answer one of your most common questions: how to insert a SIM card into your Amazon Fire phone.
As you probably know, you won’t find a user guide in the box that your Fire phone arrives in (you have to manually download it or use the Amazon help on their website).
If you bought a locked Fire phone, the SIM card is already installed in it. That’s why many of you don’t know how to insert a different SIM card into your phone. Let me tell you how to do it in a few extremely simple steps.
Compatibility & Fire Phone SIM Card Size
Fire phone uses a Nano SIM card. That’s the smallest SIM card which isn’t used in many mobile phones (most of them still use a micro SIM). On the photo below, you can see a nano SIM card.
If you bought an unlocked Fire phone, you will have to use a custom SIM card and/or ask your network operator for a nano card.
Remember that your SIM card service provider must be compatible with the following networks to work with Fire phone: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz), Quad-band GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 9 bands of 4G-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 17, 20), carrier aggregation (AT&T only).
If it’s not, your Fire phone will not recognize the SIM card, and you will be able to use it only over WiFi.
If you purchased your Fire phone with service plan through AT&T or O2, the Nano SIM card is already installed on your device.
That’s all for now. Let’s move to the practical part of the tutorial.
What If You Don’t Have A Nano SIM?
If you don’t have a nano SIM card, you should ask your mobile service provider for assistance (they should provide it for you).
You can also try to cut out a nano SIM out of your micro or standard SIM. However, using this method you may destroy your SIM card. I destroyed two micro SIM cards before I managed to cut out a nano SIM correctly 😀 Here is a tutorial of how to do it.
You can also buy a SIM card cutter and adapter (click to see it on Amazon) so that you can use your SIM card with different phones.
Fire Phone SIM Card Insertion
It’s actually very easy (unless you know how to do it). To insert a SIM card in your Fire phone:
1. Look for the hole in the SIM tray (its on the left side).
2. Insert the SIM unlock tool (or a paperclip) into this hole. I used an earring and it worked just fine. 🙂
2. Next, apply gentle pressure until the tray pops out. Be careful. You have to “feel” it.
3. Place the SIM card into the tray. Remember to make sure that the metal contacts face down and the slanted edge of the SIM card matches the tray. If you do it incorrectly, you’ll risk damaging your SIM card.
4. Slide the SIM tray into the phone (do it very gently).
The “No SIM” message will disappear and the wireless signal indicator in the Status Bar will indicate that you’re now connected to a mobile network.
If it doesn’t, press and hold the Power button, and then tap Restart to restart your device. You can also take a look at Amazon.com to read the instruction how to instert a SIM into Fire phone.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully inserted a SIM into your Fire phone.
