Tutorial Of How To Connect Your Fire Phone To A Mobile Network
When no Wi-Fi network is within range, the only way to connect your Fire phone to the Internet is by connecting it to a mobile network.
In this short tutorial I will tell you how to connect your device to a mobile network, customize its settings and control data usage. Are you ready to start?
Connecting Your Fire Phone To A Mobile Network
Your Fire phone probably already has the mobile network feature turned on (it’s on by default). If it has, you will see the mobile indicators in the top notification bar (4G LTE, 3G, EDGE, or GPRS).
Your Fire phone always connects to the fastest network that’s available, so if 4G LTE isn’t available in your area, it will connect to 3G, EDGE, or GPRS.
Once you connect your Fire to a Wi-Fi network, it will automatically switch to Wi-Fi and will not use the cellular data. When you disable Wi-Fi or the connection is lost, your Fire will switch back to a mobile network (if this feature is enabled).
To connect your Fire phone to a mobile network:
1.Open the Quick Actions Panel by swiping down from the top of the screen or swiveling your wrist.
2.Check if your Fire phone is connected to Wi-Fi. If it’s connected, its icon will be orange. If it isn’t, it will be white.
3.Turn the Wi-Fi off if it’s turned on, so that you will be able to connect your Fire to a mobile network instead.
4.Go to Settings > Wi-Fi & Networks > Turn on cellular data access. If this feature is already on, you will see “Turn off cellular data access” instead. You can also enable Data Roaming if you are abroad. Remember that it may cost you a lot of money if you use a mobile network from abroad.
5.Tap ON next to Cellular Data to turn it on.
Managing Mobile Network Settings
When you are connected to a mobile network, your Fire phone will behave as if it was connected to Wi-Fi. You will be able to make malls, text send messages, browse the web, use Facebook (as well as other social services), or browse the Amazon Appstore (and download apps from it).
However, if you don’t have an unlimited data plan (and you probably don’t), you may quickly run out of the amount of data available for you. Fortunately, Fire phone lets you easily control it. Here’s how you do that:
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi Networks >See your cellular data access.
- Tap Data Usage and then Manage Data Limit. Here you will be able to set data usage cycle, its limit after which data access will be turned off, data limit (from 2GB to 100 GB), data limit warning, and file download limit.
That’s all. You’ve done a great job! 😀
